Test drive

The car is running. It's damn quick for a pile of crap. Damn quick. We've done a few test (joy) rides around the 'hood. The neighbors hate us.

10 days to go.

Wow. What a week. Thursday night 11 people stood around a car that refused to start. We threw every part, diagnosis, and backyard remedy possible at the car - and eventually called it a day around midnight. It was apparent we were chasing more than a single problem. But we wouldn't learn how many gremlins remained until Saturday...

Optimism bites.

What a mess.
The cool thing about this kind of project is you learn a lot. You learn about ambition, patience, and determination. But, more than anything, you learn about optimism. Typically optimism is a good thing to have - until it's misdirected, then it's disastrous. Late Sunday, our optimism turned into a big steaming pile of disaster.

Quarter 'til Midnight.

The hours are getting late. Literally. We've maintained constant momentum, but our long strides have slowed to a shuffle in recent weeks. Not this weekend. We're getting shit done.

3 weeks to go.

Damn there are a lot of parts in a car. Did you know most of them are sort of important? Ya, I know. As we continue with the build the annoying sound of a clock ticking is getting louder - and we're running tight on time. How'd we do this week? Click the link and read on...

Hurry, Hurry, Wait.

Checklist in hand, helpers at the ready, and parts carefully arrayed across the driveway - Sunday dawned with the promise of hearing an engine roar, and a crew cheer. The day would end in disappointing silence.

Giving Thanks

Hundreds of years ago - some brave individuals left the comfort and safety of far-away lands in search of fortune and adventure. It certainly wasn't easy - nothing worth while is. They eventually overcame challenge after challenge (often with available horsepower in the single digits!) and founded the tradition of Thanksgiving in celebration. Having a kinship in-spirit with these stubborn and tireless trail-blazers, we offer our thanks this year in their honor.

A Horse of Another Color

We've been cobbling this car together using cast-off parts from just about every year Fox Mustang ever made. And for weeks we've been finishing little projects and components - always ending the day feeling dead-tired, and remiss that things aren't getting done fast enough. Every week that is except this week.

Safe!

I love it when the there is a knock on the door, and you can see the UPS truck through an opening in the drapes. Hurray UPS! Our team mate Rich has been on the innergoogle, and scored us some arm restraints, window net, and 6 point harness. (Sorry Chris, they don't make this stuff in pink.)

A big shout out to Corner-Carver Member 47CP - he hooked us up with a good deal for the safety stuff at http://www.soloperformance.com/ You know the deal - if you need some race gear, please support the businesses that are helping us out!

So, You're Saying There's a Chance.

Effort this weekend. Lot's of nagging little jobs complete. However - apparently we missed a big sale item from the car that could have helped our budget out. I had no idea the market value of a solid convertible door until after I carved it up with a plasma cutter. If you're gonna be stupid - ya gotta be tough.

Slow & Painful Progress

ME: "We'll get the guys together, probably only need 4-5 weekends, and we'll be testing the car by November 1st"
SKEPTIC on the PHONE: "Yeah, sounds good. What could go wrong?"

Accepted!

What have we done? We received confirmation this week from the organizers at 24HoL - We're in the race!!! Holy crap, there is a lot of work to be done. It seems like we started this car yesterday, but it's been 2 months already and time is going by too fast. We're about half way finished, but behind. Our goal was to have a car running by November, to leave plenty of time to sort out unexpected surprises. Well, surprise.

A New Hope

Welcome to this installment of history. We are Team Experimentals - and we have only one purpose - to survive the 24 Hours of Lemons.

Legend tells of a guardian protecting the skies of Europe during the late years of a Great War. Many songs have been sung in honor, fear and reverence of that mysterious machine named Inglorious – and for the idiots that dared to tame her.

She was forged from cast-off pieces of metal and misplaced courage. She challenged the laws of Nature and shifted the balance of history. It is in her memory that Team ExperiMental answers the call of Lemon - with a machine that deserves to remain cast-off and misplaced.

Our guardian is forged from 1985-1993 Mustang parts sourced from forgotten junkyards and abandoned memories. It is powered by a tireless 180,000 mile V8 and a trailer full of replacement parts – our team eagerly awaits the opportunity to demonstrate true Esprit du Lemons on track, in the pits, and during most power steering pump and head-gasket repairs.

We hope you have the courage to embark with us on this journey.

Prenons le Ciel!
